Since the start of Insecurity Insight’s Education in Danger open-source monitoring in January 2017, on average 62 incidents per month were identified, covering both political and conflict violence, averaging 2.1 attacks on education every day. The average rose from 17 per month in 2017-2020, to 166 per month in 2025, reflecting both improved open-source reporting as well as a growing frequency in which education has come under attack.

Education in Danger incidents from the monthly news briefs, 2017-2026

Between 2017-2020, on average 17 incidents affecting education services were documented per month. Between 2021-2024 this average rose to 80 incidents per month while in 2025 this rose to an average of 166 incidents per month.
